Curb Appeal — First Impressions DO Count!

Learn how to add pizzazz to the outward appearance without breaking the bank.  The entrance is a handshake and first impression of the comforts that lie within. Potential savvy buyers will drive by at night so make sure to illuminate/spot focal points and vegetation.

Door

  • Paint door pretty hue in contrast to the house colour
  • Change out hardware, shiny is appealing
  • Visible from road with obvious direction of access, clearly defined entry
  • Clear debris but add some floral or attractive plants flanking the doorway
  • Lighting is a good way to highlight the entranceway, keep it maintained, replacing burnt out bulbs and clear of dust and grime.

Windows

  • Clean and sparkling inside and out
  • Screens in good repair and clean
  • If shutters flanking windows, in good repair, painted a flattering coordinating house colour

General appearances

  • Driveway and pathways clean, (pressure wash if necessary), clear of weeds and debris. Wash or sweep to keep tidy
  • Trim edges and bushes
  • Mow lawn
  • Add mulch to garden beds
  • Weed flower beds
  • Plant with colorful plants, and remove dead foliage
  • Pressure wash the home’s siding if necessary, this is a good way to make the home appear well maintained, I suggest a professional as the paint may chip if not done correctly.
  • Don’t forget the back of the home. It should be maintained as purposely as the front.
  • Hanging house numbers vertically rather than the usual horizontal layout can add interest. Choose an interesting font but one that can be easily read
  • A door mat adds a nice touch and will encourage potential buyers and visitors to wipe their feet before entering the home.
